"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." --Thomas Merton

Meet Amy Adamcik. Since she was a child, Amy has had a passion and niche for art and has found a way to incorporate it in all aspects of her life. She has used it, in many forms, as a way to relax, relieve stress, and to stay grounded and close to nature throughout her adolescence and adulthood. She spent much of her early adult life utilizing her energy and creativity as an elementary school teacher, teaching her students to become keen observers of the world around them. She continued this philosophy as a stay at home mom to her four children, having them use all of their senses to help develop an awareness of objects and scenes in their presence. When Amy moved to Lewes, Delaware with her family, she immediately fell in love with the great, natural beauty in Delaware’s parks, beaches, landscapes and wildlife. She sought to find ways to capture that allure and to help her children continue to recognize and appreciate the picturesque magnificence around them.

When her children were all of school age, Amy decided to devote attention to honing her skills and bringing those images alive in her artwork. She began studying closely under brilliant and acclaimed local Delaware artist, Abraxas Hudson, at the Abraxas Studio of Art. Little did she know that her philosophy in teaching children to be astute observers and her passion for art would collide. In his sketching class, Amy, being a keen observer herself, easily acquired the understanding of the nuances of shade and light, composition and proportion to bring depth and dimension to an object or scene. It was after this class that Abraxas encouraged Amy to pursue a career as a professional artist, giving her many challenging scenes in which to practice and perfect her craft.  Amy was, then, one of four students who took part in his inaugural oil painting course, Masters of Oil, an intense and extensive five-week program. Through this course, she incorporated the insight and skill obtained in the sketching class with a layering of color, creating more depth, dimension, vividness and detail to her artwork to make it come alive.  The methods she learned in both courses are evident in her artwork. Amy prides herself on her attention to detail. Starting out each piece impressionistically, she sharpens her technique as she works, making her artwork bold, three dimensional and realistic. Although Amy has worked with many styles and mediums over the years, she feels her talents are best showcased in the mediums of graphite and oil.
